Q: What platforms are supported by RV Commander Pro Edition™?
A: RV Commander Pro Edition™ is currently available for Mac OS X, Windows 7/8/10, and iOS on iPad). Android is not currently supported by RV Commander Pro Edition™. In addition, for iOS devices, the iPad Pro works best (9.7, 10.5, or 12″ versions). The screen resolution of the iPad mini w/o retina display is not sufficient and you will have to scroll to use the application on the iPad mini. While the software will technically work on the iPhone, in our opinion, the small screen resolution makes it unacceptable for daily use.
Q: What screen resolution is supported?
A: RV Commander Pro Edition™ requires a screen resolution of at least 1600×1200. To minimize scrolling be sure your hardware supports a minimum 1600×1200 resolution.
Q: What is the underlying database for RV Commander Pro Edition™?
A: RV Commander Pro Edition™ is written in Filemaker Pro 16. You will need either a full-license copy of Filemaker Pro 16 or a run-time version of the Filemaker Pro platform in order to use RV Commander Pro Edition™. If you want to modify or customize the database structure for your own use, you will need a full license copy of Filemaker Pro 16 for either MacOS or Windows. If you want to just run the app and don’t have any plans to customize or change the database structure, you can use the run-time version without needing the full version of FileMaker Pro 16.
For iOS devices, Filemaker Go 16 is required to run the database on your iOS device. Filemaker Go 16 is available for free from the iOS app store. If you have questions on which version is best for you, send us at email at david.earnest@rvcommander.com and we will help you decide which version is best.
NOTE: We are changing the technical roadmap for run-times. Please see this link for further information. If you are using or think about using the run-time version we encourage you to use the non-run time version instead.
Q: Are there multiple versions of RV Commander Pro Edition™?
A: Yes, there are both run-time and non-run time versions available for MacOS and Windows. Non-run time versions required you to have additional software (FileMaker Pro 16) in order to run the software and/or customize the underlying data structures. The run-time version does not require the additional software, but you cannot change the underlying data structures with the run-time version and you are restricted to data entry only. Run-time versions also cannot display graphs or charts
The iOS version for iPad requires FileMaker Go 16 which is free from the iOS app store. You cannot modify the data structures from an iPad device. This is an inherent limitation of the FileMaker Go 16 software which is essentially a run-time engine for iOS devices.
Q: You indicate you are changing the technical direction for the run-time version. Why?
Filemaker has indicated that they will be deprecating the run-time feature in an upcoming release of the product. We hope they will make an equivalent of the Filemaker Go application available for Mac and Windows users that will allow users to run the database without having the full version of the product available. Run-times are technically still supported but they now limit features and functionality (graphs and charts).
NOTE: We are changing the technical roadmap for run-times. Please see this link for further information. If you are using or think about using the run-time version we encourage you to use the non-run time version instead.
Q: I want to be able to change/modify the database application. How do I do that?
A: To be able to change/modify the database application, you should use the non-run time version of the application. You will need to purchase a copy of FileMaker Pro 16 (approx $299) in order to modify/customize the data structure.
Note: If you change/modify the database structure for your personal use, you will likely lose your some/all of the changes if you upgrade to a future version of our software. It is OK to modify the software for your own personal use, but any changes you make on your own are not necessarily carried forward to future versions that we release. Please make sure you understand this. If you need help/assistance in migrating your custom-configured non-run time versions, we can do that at an additional cost.
NOTE: We are changing the technical roadmap for run-times. Please see this link for further information. If you are using or think about using the run-time version we encourage you to use the non-run time version instead.
Q: How often are product updates provided and how do I update my current version?
A: Our goal is to produce at least quarterly releases of RV Commander Pro Edition™. We have been producing releases on a much more frequent schedule. Future product releases will include bug fixes and feature enhancements.
For licensed users, we will provide you with product updates and instructions on how to carry forward your existing data to the new version. Our goal is to ensure 100% forward compatibility from previous versions, so you can be assured that the data you enter will be usable in future versions of the software.
You must register your software to be eligible for future updates.
Q: How do I setup, configure, and backup my software?
A: Setup and configuration is a very important prior to begin using the software. If you are a first-time user of the software you will be required to Initialize the software prior to first use. The Setup menu allows you to initialize first use, import previous versions, perform backup/maintenance procedures, and import new data packs into the software application. Full information and instructions are provided under the Setup menu.
Q: How do I report software bugs or request feature enhancements?
A: We have included a feature to allow you to report software bugs and feature enhancements directly from within the application. For additional information and instructions, check the Setup menu.
Q: Will it have all the information for my coach already loaded?
A: Unfortunately no. We have no way to know everything about your coach. We do however provide you with all of the data base structures for you to load everything about your specific coach. And we have on our future road map a new feature to allow the community to share their non-personal info with others to provide a means to jump start new users that have similar coaches. Stay tuned for more info on this…
